Richard Dadd

1841, Oil on canvas

This painting accompanied Titania Sleeping and was based upon Shakespeare's a Midsummer Night's Dream. This scene depicts the trickster Puck sitting upon a toadstool. This paint along with Titania Sleeping, were the paintings Dadd was most famous for among his contemporaries. The work from his years at Bethlem Hospital was not displayed during his lifetime.
